Adult Services

Hands reaching for help

Counselling for anyone who is affected by their own or another’s substance use, be it drugs, alcohol or volatile substances.

What can clients expect?

The Adult Service offers free, confidential one to one counselling, advocacy, support and information to anyone affected by their own or another’s substance use. Within the Adult Service we offer our services to individuals, who are in need of support with their own substance use, be it illicit drugs or prescribed, solvents and or alcohol use. We also offer our services to individuals who are affected by another’s substance use, be it a friend, partner or family member. DAPL workers draw upon a wide range of skills, which are proven to be effective in helping people sustain positive change with alcohol & drug related problems. Our counselling sessions last for one hour and are on a weekly basis at a time agreed between the client and their counsellor.

How long can clients attend?

Our service is not time limited; this means that the client can work with our counsellors for a period of time agreed between them and their counsellor to support the exploration of issues arising from their own or another’s substance use, with the view to supporting sustained and positive lifestyle changes.

Referral process

Anyone can refer to our service, over the years self referral has constantly been our highest referral route, however if you require further information, contact us or call 01333 422 277.

On receiving a referral stating the clients initial details, they will be invited to attend an Triage assessment to assess the suitability for our service in a location as near to the community reside. The Triage assessment will last for around 30 minutes. During the Triage we will undertake a thorough assessment of presenting needs and what the client hopes to achieve by accessing DAPL.

On completion of the triage assessment the client will, if criteria is met go on for allocation, where they will be placed on our waiting list and will be allocated a worker as soon as an available space is free.

If the client is not suitable for DAPL’s Adult Services, an explanation will be given and alternative action will be taken, for example referral to a suitable agency that can best fulfill the client’s needs at that time.

Individuals who at the time of initial assessment don’t meet the criteria are informed that they can re-refer to DAPL at any time, should their circumstances change.

Guidance and Behaviour Support staff always speak highly of the service offered by DAPL staff.
